Gender equality is a core value of the European Union . However, talented women continue to be under-represented in EU research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The current EU strategy aims to advance women in leading scientific roles, achieve gender balance in decision making, and integrate a gender dimension in research and innovation context. The European Research Area (ERA), and the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon Europe 2021-2027), request all organisations applying for funding to demonstrate that they have a Gender Equality Plan (GEP).
However, in spite of their size, Big Science Projects have so far not been largely at the margin of this policy priority. We have a unique opportunity to address gender equality and diversity by identifying good practice in public and private entities, and to stimulate innovative actions through the launch of an award. For the first time ever in the history of the Big Science Business Forum, a session addressing the theme of “Women in Science”, organised by F4E, promises to address this topic.
Join the webinar on Friday, 11 February, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, to participate in an interesting debate. With the help of Dr. Elizabeth Pollitzer, leading expert on Women in Science, and through contributions from representatives of co- organising Big Science Organisations, industry, and other stakeholders, we will analyse the situation and establish the award criteria to promote and reward effective actions addressing gender balance.
